The bar top for the Mason (18) location was adorned with old car parts with vintage graphics and signs. The theme for the site was the “Condado'-Dome”, a post-apocalyptic wasteland where rival gangs run rampant.

MURALS/DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION

I’ve been fortunate to paint walls and bar tops in three locations for the rapidly expanding Condado Tacos out of Columbus, OH. Condado taps local artists to apply theme-driven murals that cover their restaurants from floor-to-ceiling. Condado’s creative department supplies all quality paint materials and guidance to help the artists hit the ground running on day one.

Each mural was done over the course of three to four weeks and varied by square footage and assignment. Each store allows artists to explore the different themes and apply their own style and twist on the task.

CONDADO #34

Anderson TWP (COndado #34)

  • 411 SQ FT

  • 39’W x 15’H (Minus windows)

  • Theme:

    Condado 3035 (Cyberpunk)

  • 80-100 hrs to complete

  • Montana Sprays

  • Nova Acrylics

Here are a few progress pics showing the evolution of modeling the taco with spray paints. The final sprays are then lined with high-flo acrylic paint markers.

Since there is a lot of perspective work in the composition I started out in Illustrator with simple blocks using the perspective planes grid.

The original line art is created with technical pens based on the shapes built in Illustrator.

The final composition is scanned and colored in Photoshop using the available palette colors. The render is then used to project onto the wall in sections for scale.

The rendered comp shows the mix of work from myself and Nicole Gangwer. I was tasked with painting the plane, peezler pilots and the tacos. Nicole handled the aviator Moon Man, gems and fruits. We both tackled the background and clouds.
